Immunological rejection of a dispersed cell graft has been assayed in mice, the test graft consisting of allogeneic mouse peritoneal cells of which only the macrophages were labelled with 51Cr. A highly significant (P<0.001) secondary response was demonstrated in spleen, lymph node and bone marrow but a significant primary response (P<0.01 over 48 hours, P<0.001 over 12 days) occurred only in lymph node. The secondary response was detectable in only one hour after injection, the primary response in 6 hours. This phenomenon is immunologically specific and can be passively transferred with immune serum but not with immune spleen cells. |
