| Abstrakt: |
Limitations on series-expansion methods for calculating the optical extinction of small metal spheres on the Mie theory are discussed. The series expansion for the extinction coefficient in powers of the particle radius is shown to be invalid in cases of greatest interest. The results of calculations based directly upon Mie’s series and upon the empirical optical constants are given for a wide range of wavelengths and particle diameters for Na, K, Rb, and Cs. |
