I would like to stress the following points concerning hiatus hernia: (1).Assessment should be careful and thorough and the appropriate management decided on the merits of each individual case.(2).Every patient with hiatus hernia suffering from persistent distressing symptoms must be regarded as a candidate for surgery at the earliest possible moment.(3).The operative approach must be the one which in any hands will give the maximum possible chance of safe and efficient cure.(4).Recourse to medical treatment alone should be regarded as a major clinical setback. |
