Abstrakt: Human skin surface lipid samples from both acne patients and normal individuals were examined with respect to both total acidity and the detailed composition of the free acid fraction. On the basis of this study, there is no apparent relationship between the total acidity of the surface lipid and the severity of the acne condition, nor is there a gross difference in the composition of the free acid fraction between the normal and the acne condition. Corynebacterium acneshas been cultured in a medium containing certain glycerides normally found in sebum and its esterase activity established.
