Abstrakt: The loss of benzyl alcohol, phenylethyl alcohol, and methylparaben from solution in the presence of natural, neoprene, and butyl rubber stoppers was studied. The influence of closure extractives on the analysis for residual preservative was evaluated. To insure valid determinations of preservative loss, techniques for eliminating the interference of extractives in the analysis were investigated. Partition studies were performed on the preservatives to determine their relative preference for each rubber composition studied.
