Abstrakt: The effect of pH on the in vitroabsorption of flufenamic acid is studied using the “everted sac” technique. The study reveals that the passage of this drug through the gut membrane is by passive diffusion. The amount diffusing through is dependent on the pH. Using Fick's diffusion law, a method is presented to calculate the apparent permeability constant at each pH value, and to determine the permeability constant. The relative surface area of the membrane through which diffusion of the drug takes place is estimated from the amount of “bound” drug.
