Charcoal-Containing Empyema Complicating Treatment for Overdose*

Abstrakt: A 25-year-old man was treated with gastric lavage and activated charcoal for alcohol and drug overdose; immediately following the initial treatment he developed tension pneumothorax successfully managed with a chest tube. The patient presented four weeks later with a charcoal-containing empyema, an unreported condition heretofore.
