Abstrakt: Research has shown that nurses, physicians, and other health professionals working together improves quality and leads to better patient outcomes and satisfaction. This study focused on interprofessional education on health literacy. A small group format was used as the primary activity to encourage interprofessional communication and participation. The entire classes of 49 MU accelerated baccalaureate nursing students, who had previous degrees in other fields, and 102 MU first-year medical students participated. There were statistically significant increases on all items assessing knowledge and skill acquisition from pre-test to post-test (n=141, p=.001). A single interprofessional session with activities focusing around a standardized patient encounter can be an effective strategy for learning about health literacy and developing positive interprofessional attitudes and behaviors.
