Abstrakt: The effectiveness of the hypothalamic releasing factor (RF) for follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) has been recently established on experimental animals but has not been reported on the human. The intravmous drip infusion or single injection of the hypothalamic FSH-RF, partially purified from the beef hypothalamus, to the 14 sterile amenorrheic or anovulatory women induced a significant increase in FSH release into the blood within 30 minutes in 3 of 4 patients, an increase in urinary estrogen secretion in 10 of 12, and an increase in the amount of cervical mucus in 13 of 14. Ovulation occurred in the one patient during FSH-RF treatment and in the 2 others following the subsequent administration of HCG. One of these women became pregnant. These results suggest no species difference in the hypothalamic FSH-RF among mammals and perhaps provide a new approach for the induction of human ovulation.
