Abstrakt: Fifteen women who had untreated asymptomatic bacteriuria during pregnancy were studied 3 to 18 months after delivery. Nine of the women had histories of previous urinary tract infection. Twelve of the women had abnormal intravenous pyelograms. Creatinine clearance was decreased in 5 patients, 2 of whom had proteinuria and 2 of whom had decreased urinary concentrating ability. The 5 patients with decreased creatinine clearances all had histories of previous urinary tract infection (4 dating from childhood) and 4 had major abnormalities on intravenous pyelogram. These results suggest that in some women bacteriuria during pregnancy may represent one stage of a process which started long before pregnancy.
