These are the words of the late Professor Bryan Brooke who perfected the procedure of stoma formation with the eversion technique in the early 1950s. Bryan Brooke also had the foresight to know that if the psychological needs of his patients were addressed, they would make a better recovery and in April 1956, with his encouragement, a group of patients met together to establish The Ileostomy Association. |
