A relationship between the degree of in vivo activity of estrogens and the presence of abnormal endometrial states has been suggested by numerous investigators. This study is concerned with excretory pattern of the urinary metabolites of H3-estradiol in 17 normal postmenopausal females and 34 postmenopausal females with endometrial carcinoma. There was no statistical difference in the excretion of the classic estrogens between the two groups of patients, nor in their “estriol quotient.” Evidence was obtained that indicates a precursor for urinary estriol other than estrone. Postmenopausal women with endometrial carcinoma apparently produce less of this precursor. |
