Understanding Neighborhoods

Abstrakt: AbstractThe purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of the various aspects of neighborhoods and their importance to the well-being of individuals and families, particularly families with children. The conceptual frameworks and theoretical constructs related to neighborhoods are discussed. A brief history of the study of neighborhoods is included, and factors that lead to neighborhood satisfaction are examined. Finally, new approaches to neighborhood development are discussed, including gated communities, planned unit developments, digital neighborhoods, and conservation communities. This article is intended as a learning module for classroom use.
