The effect of load and rubbing speed on frictional behaviour of a number of metals is investigated. The coefficient of kinetic friction, as determined in a modified pin and disc machine, is shown to increase with higher load and lower hardness values. Higher relative speed at the interacting surfaces tends to enhance the rate of straining of mating asperities and to raise interface temperature with a consequential increase in the coefficient of kinetic friction |
