Endothelial Oxygen Levels During Anterior Corneal Hypoxia

Abstrakt: ABSTRACT: Recent work by Holden and co‐workers indicates that at least 10% oxygen (74 mmHg) is required at the anterior cornea to avoid corneal oedema. To calculate the corresponding oxygen tension at the endothelium, theoretical models of oxygen distribution in rabbit and cat corneas were used. The results suggest that at the critical level of 10% tear oxygen, the corneal endothelium is approaching anoxia.
