Effect of Paraquat on Growth of Nitrosomonas europaea and Nitrobacter agilis

Abstrakt: Paraquat at 4μM strongly inhibited the growth of Nitrobacter agilis but had no effect at all on the growth of Nitrosomonas europaea. However, nitrite did not accumulate in the presence of 4μM paraquat when ammonia was oxidized by a mixed culture of the two nitrifiers.
