Abstrakt: Five volatile anaesthetics (diethly ether, methoxyflurane, halothane, isoflurane and enflurane) were administered to cats carrying chronically implanted electrodes in various parts of the central nervous system and the electrical activity was recorded. Observations were carried out under conditions similar to clinical anaesthesea, from a brief period preceding administration of the anaesthetics, during induction, 30 min maintenance, immediate recovery and in the subsequent 2–16 days. There were no e.e.g. alterations following administration of ether, halothane and methoxyflurane, but there were changes following isoflurane and enflurane.
