Abstrakt: One group of rats was trained in a 10-week exercise program and a comparable group left in their cages. The animals of both groups were then subjected to abdominal aortic constriction and injection with [3H]thymidine 3 days later. After one more day the hearts were removed and perfused with degradative enzymes. Following separation of cell types, greater levels of [3H]thymidine incorporation were found in muscle and nonmuscle cells of trained rats.
