Abstrakt: Fecal flora in two female patients with acrodermatitis enteropathica (AE) were investigated in connection with the efficacies of zinc sulfate and Entero‐Vioform (EV). The following results were obtained. Drastic deviations from normal were found in the bacterial distributions in the feces of patients before treatment. In particular, Eubacterium, one of the commonest anaerobic bacteria in normal human feces, was not detected. This characteristic finding was not altered by administration of zinc sulfate, although all clinical symptoms in the patients clearly improved. The administration of EV, however, did return the numbers of this organism to almost normal levels, with clear improvement of clinical symptoms similar to that obtained with zinc sulfate. These results suggest that intestinal flora may play an important role in the absorption of zinc from ordinary diets.
