Abstrakt: The gypsy moth sex attractant deteriorates rapidly, so that most of its original potency is lost when it is exposed during the next flight season, a year later. Eight lots of this attractant collected between 1947 and 1956 were stabilized by hydrogenation and tested periodically to determine their loss in attractancy when stored at 4° C. Results of these tests indicate that the hydrogenation procedure is effective in preventing deterioration of the lure. In the latest tests hydrogenated lures that were collected 9, 4, 3, 2, and 1 years previously were equally effective. Hydrogenation should be carried out shortly after collection of the lure. Details of this procedure are given.
