Abstrakt: Young turkey hens were placed on sod range which had been sprayed with a 0.1-% lindane emulsion at a rate of 0.5 lb of lindane per acre. One group of hens was placed on the range immediately after spraying and other groups 1 week and 2 weeks later. Skin samples were collected from the turkeys prior to being placed on the range and at weekly intervals during the experiment. The study was conducted over a period of 4 weeks from the time of spraying the range. All turkeys were slaughtered and samples of skin, fat, and muscle tissue were collected for residue analysis. Electron capture gas chromatography with florisil sample cleanup was used for analysis of samples. Detectable levels of lindane residues were found in skin, fat, and meat tissue samples of all birds placed on the sprayed range. At the time of slaughter a level of 2.1 ppm of lindane was found in fat tissue of turkeys placed on the range immediately after spraying; 1.0 ppm in the fat of those hens placed on the range after 1 week and 0.7 ppm in the fat of those hens placed on the range 2 weeks after spraying.
