A total of 400 adult Apis mellifera L. were individually force fed sugar solution containing Nosema locustae Canning. After 26 days, any living bees were sacrificed. The thoracic tissues and the ventriculus of each of the 400 bees were examined for the presence of Nosema spores. A total of 5 spores was seen in 3 of the 400 ventriculi examined. No spores were seen in the thoracic tissues. N. locustae is not infective to adult honey bees exposed by direct ingestion. |
