The Center for the History of Entomology was conceived 6 years ago, in early 1973. Several retired entomologists at The Pennsylvania State University discussed the possibility of systematically preserving, within the framework of the Frost Entomological Museum at Penn State, the historically interesting and significant professional correspondence and memorabilia that they were cleaning out of their desks and homes. Stuart W. Frost, for whom the Museum was named, and John O. Pepper, retired extension entomologist, together with Arnold Mallis, who had a large amount of correspondence and pictorial material resulting from research on his recently published book American Entomologists (Mallis 1971), agreed to pool their considerable amounts of historical material to make it available to scholars and entomologists interested in the history of the profession. |
