Newly ecdysed 5th-instar male milkweed bugs (Hemiptera: Lygaeidae) were treated with a juvenile hormone mimic or with acetone (control). At selected intervals after treatment, ca. 1 g samples of the bugs were homogenized and subjected to differential centrifugation. Assays of acid phosphatase activity on the nuclear, mitochondrial, microsomal, and soluble fractions showed no statistical differences between the JH- and acetone-treated bugs. The lysosomal fraction of the JH-treated bugs showed an increase in acid phosphatase activity over the control bugs during the middle portion (ca. 30–60%) of the stadium. |
