Abstrakt: Glycosphingolipids (GSL) essentially contribute to the development of insulin resistance (IR) in adipose tissue. On one hand GSL such as the ganglioside GM3 have been shown to cause insulin resistance (IR) in adipocytes, on the other hand macrophages have to buffer adipose lipid spillage causing a foamy cell appearance.
