Eightfold Functionalization of the Octasilsesquioxane Core

Abstrakt: Eightfold functionalized octasilsesquioxanes (R8Si8O12) are synthesized using the hydrosilylation method. Different types of groups R, consisting of an (-O-SiMe2(CH2)2) spacer unit and various terminal units (-CH2(C2Me)B10H10, - C5H3MeMn(CO)3, -SiMe2C5H4FeC5H5, -SiMe2Cl, -SiMeCl2, -Si(OEt)3) have been introduced. The hydrosilylation products have been characterized by 1H, 13C, 29Si NMR and infrared spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The redox properties of the ferrocenyl substituted compound have been studied by cyclovoltammetry.
