Abstrakt: This article discusses the principles and purposes of the immune response to feline leukemia virus (FeLV). The pathogenesis of FeLV is reviewed, and the various categories of postexposure responses are described. The history of FeLV vaccine research is included, as is a list of the specific FeL V vaccine products available in the United States. Also reviewed are the many studies of comparative vaccine efficacy. Novel technologies for immunization against mammalian retroviruses are discussed.
