Abstrakt: Integrated approaches to controlling ticks on and off hosts are discussed. Application of acaricides to the animal for the control of attached ticks and the use of long-acting acaricide-impregnated flea and tick collars to prevent reinfestation of ticks should provide adequate tick control for up to 20 weeks. Other methods of managing populations of ticks, such as vegetative modification and host management to reduce the survival time of ticks, are described. Experimental methods of controlling ticks on small animal hosts also are discussed.
