In an examination of the dentitions of 22 adults who live in a remote region of Papua, 16 study participants were found to have extensive periodontal disease and radicular caries. Copious amounts of adherent plaque, presumed to be of bacterial origin, were found on most teeth. The findings suggest that some plaque deposits are not associated with coronal lesions, but are conducive to periodontal and radicular lesions. |
