Basing House was erected after the licence of 1531, replacing a medieval house; occupation started during the period 1540-50 and terminated with the siege in October 1645. Excavations were carried out between c. 1875 and c. 1908 producing a vast quantity and wide range of artifact material. The first part of this paper in the preceding volume of this Journal described and discussed the ceramic material in the collection. This second part describes and relates the remaining artifact groups, including domestic and structural ironwork, military equipment, firebacks, bronze-work, bone, leather, wood, vessel, bottle and window glass and clay tobacco pipes.**A List of Abbreviationsto those works most frequently cited in footnotes is on p. 76. |
