Abstrakt: Neumayer was a prominent figure in the development of geophysics in the 19th century as he organised a network of international co-operation in this new field of science. The authors analyse in this paper his contributions to terrestrial magnetism. Neumayer was in this field a research worker and thinker, too, as well as a stimulating co-ordinator. He published in 1892 an excellent Atlas of Geomagnetism as part of Berghaus’ Physikalischer Atlas.
