Abstrakt: A technique for vascular isolation of the liver and vena cava injuries involves use of the Foley catheter. In preliminary studies four of six dogs survived the ten-day observation period. Liver function studies were transiently elevated. Pathology was confined to the liver and revealed minimal atrophy about the central veins in two of four dogs. A case report utilizing the technique includes the subsequent recovery of liver function and patient survival.
