SummaryThis study explored the construct validity of the Spiegel Personality Inventory (SPI) by examining the relationships among SPI scales and scales from other well-known personality instruments. A battery of tests was administered to 150 college students. A principal components analysis was done involving 78 personality variables. Of the 26 factors obtained, nine major factors emerged: insecurity or dissatisfaction, authoritarianism-dogmatism, adjustment via social conformity, religious experience, assertive independence, weakness, social power, social poise or extroversion and thought control. Scale intercorrelations for each of these nine factors were presented. The SPI appeared to provide considerable personality information which is relatively unrelated to that obtained from other tests. |
