Abstrakt: The questions of the uniqueness and universality of Jesus loom large in scholarly discussions of the relationship of Christianity to other religions. This can be seen in the recent work of scholars such as John Hick and Paul Knitter, who deal with Christ in the context of world religions, as well as in that of spokesmen for Jewish-Christian dialogue, such as John Pawlikowski and Paul van Buren. Both groups of scholars address the same question - namely, that of the uniqueness of the Christ-event and Christianity vis-à-vis other faiths. All are disturbed by the problem that the traditional self-understanding of Christianity either dismisses or subordinates the value of other religions.
