SIGNIFICANCE OF NEPHRITIS OF PREGNANCY

Abstrakt: There is much to suggest that toxemia of the third trimester of pregnancy is a widespread vascular disease affecting the smaller vessels throughout the body. Characteristic changes are often found in the nailfold capillaries and in the vessels of the fundi during the course of the disease. Necropsy reveals pathologic changes in the smaller vessels of the liver, kidneys and brain, and often of other organs.It is reasonable to suppose that in a disease of such a general systemic nature, certain organs may at times be affected more than others. There are degrees of involvement depending on the severity of the disease and on the organ chiefly affected. When the disease is severe enough to cause death, necropsy indicates that chiefly the liver and kidneys are involved.
