Stereographic viewing is achieved by rapid alternate radiographic bursts delivered from two x-ray sources beneath the fluoroscopic table and directed by a rotateing and fixed mirror to the appropriate eye. Stereographic movies are recorded as alternate left- and right-eye images on the same film strip. These are viewed when they are projected through polarizing filters so that each eye sees only its appropriate image. The method permits threedimensional viewing of the cardiovascular system and of the bolus of contrast material as it passes through the circulation. The interrelationships of vessels and chambers may be seen directly, rather than inferred, and the necessity for biplane studies is reduced. |
