Two secundiparas experienced episodes of hypertension both before and after delivery. Diagnostic tests in each instance led to the suspicion of pheochromocytoma, and removal of the tumor was followed by complete recovery. Five diagnostic tests that proved to be of particular value in these cases were (1) urinary assay of catechol amines, (2) the phentolamine adrenergic blocking test, (3) the histamine provocative test, (4) the piperoxan antidiuresis test, and (5) inferior vena cavography. |
