CLIMATE AND THE UPPER PART OF THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM. DR. C. COULTER CHARLTON, ATLANTIC CITY, N. J. The medical profession since the time of Hippocrates has been interested in the relation of climatic conditions to health. People are greatly influenced by climate in their ability to resist infections of the upper part of the respiratory system. The autonomic system plays a great role in one's life, and it behooves every one to give it consideration. Persons in Atlantic City working in laundries with a high temperatures and moist heat do not seem to contract atrophic rhinitis. The climatic environment seems to prevent it. After living for a few years in seashore air, persons who have the condition seem to improve. Acute infections of the upper part of the respiratory system are less frequent and less severe in this climate than in the large cities. According to the records of the |
