TO THE EDITOR.— The article by Waddell et al entitled "Acute Myeloblastic Leukemia Following Chemotherapy for Mycosis Fungoides," published in the March Archives (1982;118:179-182), like our article entitled "Mycosis Fungoides Terminating in Acute Myelomonocytic Leukemia,"1 indicates the importance of carefully assessing the riskbenefit ratio of systemic antineoplastic drug therapy. These drugs suppress the body's immune defenses, thus facilitating the appearance of a second malignant condition. In our opinion, treatment should be limited to the skin in patients whose mycosis fungoides is limited to the skin, and chemotherapy given for systemic effect should be reserved for systemic involvement.Letters will be published as space permits and at the discretion of the editor. All components of letters, including references, must be typewritten, double-spaced. Do not include more than five references and two figures in duplicate.
