TO THE EDITOR.— In the March Archives (115:306-308, 1979), Dr Wade and colleagues described "a new entity [bowenoid papulosis of the genitalia] whose biologic behavior if untreated is as yet unknown." In actual fact, this entity is well known1-4 and its biologic behavior in young patients is one of spontaneous regression in many cases.1,2Dr Wade and colleagues describe the lesions as unusual because "they were multiple, showed histologic features of squamous cell carcinoma in situ, and appeared in young adults." In reality, this is not unusual at all but describes a part of a typical manifestation in these young patients. Other typical features include acute onset and spontaneous regression.Dr Wade and colleagues conclude their article as follows: "One of the most important questions about these lesions is what their biologic behavior would be if left untreated." I submit that that question has been answered1,2 and |
