Abstrakt: The school media specialist must have broad knowledge and competence in a wide range of media services and be able to interrelate media content to the educational process. He or she must function as an educator and know, support, and help develop the educational goals of the school and community. The certification of professional media personnel is based upon the premise that the candidate for certification has achieved a required level of proficiency. This paper describes a prototype management information system for tracking students through a competency-based program. It provides faculty, advisors, and students with information about the educational and professional background of students, courses they have taken, and competencies passed as a result.
