FLOW OVER INCLINED SHARP CRESTED TRIANGULAR WEIR

Abstrakt: ABSTRACTIn the field of Hydraulic Engineering, Irrigation Engineering and Chemical Engineering the weirs and notches find their use as a device for discharge measurement and flow control. The plane of these weirs/notches has been standardized to be normal to the flow axis both ways. However, in certain situations they can also be inclined to the flow axis for the established advantage it has, as a side weir and oblique weir. Several investigators have worked on skew weirs fixed inclined with respect to the flow axis with round or as well as broad crest, in which inclination is taken with respect to the flow direction. No significant work has been reported on weirs fixed inclined to the flow surface or bed of the channel. The present work is a semi-theoretical and experimental analysis of flow over inclined sharp crested triangular weir, which is fixed inclined with respect to the flow surface or bed of the channel. It is shown that the discharge coefficient for the simple triangular weir can be improved by fixing them inclined towards downstream. The proposed equation for discharge will-yield fairly good results. The variation of estimated discharges with the actual discharges is observed to be within ±6% error. The higher discharge coefficient will help to clear off the water at a much faster rate and reduces afflux on upstream side of weir, thereby overcoming the major draw back of sharp-crested weirs.
