Abstrakt: Frozen sections of punch biopsies from the clinically normal skin of 150 patients were stained with a fluorescein-conjugated antiserum active against human immunoglobulin G (IgG), IgM, IgA, transferrin, and fibrinogen. Fixation of antiserum to the dermal-epidermal junction was demonstrated in 45 of 50 patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and in 9 of 100 control patients. On the basis of these results, we conclude that immunofluorescent staining of the clinically normal skin is a useful diagnostic test for SLE.
