The adrenal glands of a patient with Cushing's syndrome were visualized repeatedly with a rectilinear photoscanner and an Anger camera following the administration of a dose of131I-19-iodocholesterol. Both adrenal glands appeared to concentrate131I-19-iodocholesterol equally and were similar in size. This supported the clinical impression that his steroid excess was being caused by bilateral adrenocortical hyperplasia rather than by a functioning unilateral adrenocortical tumor. |
