The detection of space-occupying lesions by routine radiocolloid liver scans is well established. However, a wide variety of pathological processes produce the same scan changes. Gallium 67 concentrates in tissues affected with many neoplastic and inflammatory diseases. Ultrasound B scanning accurately differentiates cystic lesions from those composed of solid tissue. These modalities are complementary and, in combination, can increase the diagnostic specificity of focal hepatic lesions.(JAMA 229:1463-1465, 1974) |
