Warning: inhaled cigar smoke can be particularly hazardousStill more bad news for cigarette smokers: switching to cigars doesn't help.The problem seems to be that smokers who learned to smoke cigarettes can't "unlearn" the habit of inhaling when they smoke. Cigar smokers who never became habitual cigarette smokers usually don't inhale, but "reformed" cigarette smokers carry the habit over to their cigar smoking. Some of them apparently don't even realize they're doing it, but most of them inhale intentionally. Some of them have been convinced—by physicians, among others—that cigars are "safer" than cigarettes, and they believe they can inhale with impunity.Not so, says a researcher from the cigar capital of America.
