Abstrakt: SUMMARYCapparis decidua(Forsk) Edgew. is an under-exploited, drought hardy, multipurpose, woody shrub or small tree found throughout arid regions of Indian sub-continent. It is of great value to the inhabitants in a variety of ways. The green immature fruits are rich in protein, carbohydrates, fats and minerals (Ca, P & Fe); immature fruits are either pickled or made into a delicious vegetable curries. It is the most important ingredient of the famous panchkutavegetable of Rajasthan state, India, which is prepared from five types of dried fruits or seeds.This review gives a detailed account of its botanical description, variability, reproductive phenology, distribution, propagation methods including micropropagation, field establishment, harvesting, yield and value of fruits, and the medicinal and other uses of fruits and different parts of the plant.
