Abstrakt: The local and medium range order in amorphous tungsten oxides has been investigated by anomalous wide-angle X-ray scattering (AWAXS). Amorphous phases have been prepared for the first time by non-reactive grinding, from both WO3pyrochlore-type structure which is metastable, and WO3· 1H2O hydrate. The AWAXS study is based on measurements performed at the L2W edge. A differential analysis has been carried out with the extraction of both the oxygen and the tungsten environment. Through a comparison of the partial structure factors for both phases and the original crystalline phases, conclusions are drawn concerning the octahedra's packing and the role of ‘water’ bonding in amorphous tungsten oxides.
