Abstrakt: IR spectroscopy of species isolated at low concentrations in inert matrices at cryogenic temperatures is an important physical technique in many branches of science. Raman spectra of such systems are much more difficult to obtain even at a resolution of only 1 cm−1. Coherent Raman spectroscopy with an attainable resolution of at least 0.001 cm−1is capable of rivalling diode laser or Fourier transform IR spectrometers. We report here the first coherent Raman spectrum of a matrix-isolated species. The system chosen is carbon monoxide in nitrogen (15K) at 0.13% concentration with a resolution of 0.13 cm−1.
