Abstrakt: The nuclei of Seyfert galaxies contain very turbulent motion and are often intense sources of radio emission. It has been proposed that very compact supermassive objects could be the source of these energetic phenomena. Speckle observations of the nucleus of NGC1068 have revealed for the first time the presence of such an object with a diameter of ≲2.3 pc but emitting an amount of visible light equivalent to that from 5 × 109solar masses.
